Hammond, Louisiana

Hammond is located in the Northshore region of Louisiana, in Tangipahoa Parish. It is home to Southeastern Louisiana University, whose campus is a hub of activities, events, and performances open to the public.

Getting There

The city at the corner of Interstates 12 and 55, Hammond, is ideal for day trips from major cities like New Orleans (about forty-five miles to the southeast) or Baton Rouge (about forty-five miles to the west).

Downtown – Downtown Hammond is where you can find historical architecture, visit local shops, and enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants. When you are ready to shop for local goods at Hammond Farmers Market or attend Hot August Stroll, an annual festival featuring music, food, and local art, this is also the area to visit.

Southeastern Louisiana University – Home to the Lions and beloved mascot Roomy, Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) is a cornerstone of the community. The campus offers a variety of cultural and sporting events throughout the year. While not on campus, the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts has become the host of many Southeastern plays, concerts, and other performances.

Events and Festivals

Louisiana Renaissance Festival – Set in the Village of Albright, the Louisiana Renaissance Festival is a family-friendly immersive festival celebrated in autumn. Festival attendees enjoy live stage performances, artisan shops, taverns, jousting, and education days. Many visitors attend wearing Renaissance attire, making this a genuinely participant-friendly and memorable event to be a part of.

Hammond Northshore Regional Air Show – This airshow, produced every other year, has become a favorite event for local and visiting aviation enthusiasts. This airshow has featured Louisiana native Kevin Coleman, a second-generation airshow performer, the US Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, The AeroShell Aerobatic Team, and one of the A-10C Thunderbolt II Demonstration Team, one of the Air Force’s top shows.
